Indian movie achieves cross-over success in Britain

A Bollywood production costing $6 million, exorbitant by Indian standards, is attracting huge crowds in London, assuring its success as the first “crossover” film to appeal to western tastes, the Times of India reported Monday. Lagaan, about a peasant uprising against British rule in 1893 in which a local administrator agrees to waive taxes if the villagers can beat a British cricket team, stars one of India’s top actors, Aamir Khan, who produced the film as well. It also features 15 British actors.
