After being M.I.A. on the pop charts for six years, Michael Jackson returned with a vengeance last week, grabbing the top spot with 366,272 units sold of his new album “Invincible.”
According to music-sales tracker Soundscan, Jackson came out number one for the week ending Nov. 4–and he came out in others ways, as well, showing up at Manhattan’s Virgin Megastore to promote the release.
“We’re obviously thrilled with having the number one record as well as the success of our recently released re-mastered editions of Michael’s other albums,” said Steve Kennedy, vice president of sales at Epic Records.
The King of Pop‘s reign could be short-lived, however, as teen queen Britney Spears released her new album, “Britney,” on Tuesday.
