On Wednesday, rapper Jay-Z pleaded guilty to third-degree assault charges stemming from a 1999 stabbing incident in a Manhattan night club. The Grammy-winning artist admitted to stabbing a competing record producer, Lance Rivera of Untertainment Records, facing a possible sentence of three years probation–though he would have faced 15 years in prison had he plead not guilty.
“I stabbed Lance Rivera,” Jay-Z said before Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Micki Scherer. “I have accepted responsibility for my actions as well as the actions of others who were involved.”
The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, will be sentenced on Dec. 6.
