Reese Witherspoon plays the net

Reese Witherspoon is taking it to the courts in her next feature film.

The actress, now on everyone’s A-list after last summer’s smash hit Legally Blonde, will be paid a cool $8 million (her biggest payday to date) to star in an as-yet untitled drama set in the world of professional women’s tennis.

Witherspoon will play a former tennis prodigy whose intense determination leads her to lose her composure at the U.S. Open and ruin her career. At 24, she is considered a has-been and is relegated to taking a job as a resident pro at a swanky tennis club, giving lessons to the rich. However, she eventually aligns herself with an Anna Kournikova-type player, who has beauty and endorsements but lacks the drive to win major tournaments.
