“Sopranos” complaints rejected

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council rejected complaints by viewers that the hit television show The Sopranos contained too much sex and violence and was derogatory to the Italian community. The CBSC said the subject matter pertains to a fictional set of characters and does not reflect the Italian community in general. It also stated that “the show’s graphic style is appropriate to the story being told,” as reported in Variety. The CBSC did reproach CTV, the national network that airs the series, for not showing viewer warnings after each commercial break during the Olympics in primetime last year.
