‘Sopranos’ Star Dies

Award-winning actress Nancy Marchand died Sunday night at her Connecticut home, it was disclosed earlier this afternoon. She was 71. Marchand, who would’ve turned 72 today and was best known for playing the family matriarch Livia Soprano in the HBO mob series “The Sopranos,” had been battling lung cancer since late last year.

Her diagnosis was made public in September, and the actress had remained committed to the show despite her illness.

Among her many accolades, Marchand won multiple Emmys for her role in the TV show “Lou Grant,” which ran from 1979 to 1982. And last year, she received the best supporting actress for “The Sopranos” at the Golden Globe Awards.
