Straight-to-Cable Cameron

And you thought “Charlie’s Angels” was the troubled Cameron Diaz movie. Try “Things You Can Tell By Just Looking at Her.” The ensemble chick flick — featuring Diaz, Calista Flockhart and Glenn Close (among others) — has been yanked from its planned theatrical release, with MGM shuttling it off instead to pay-cable TV.

The film, which was to have hit theaters in July (after originally being scheduled for the spring), will now make its coast-to-coast debut on Showtime in early 2001, today’s Daily Variety says.

“Things” played at this year’s Sundance and Cannes film festivals, but distributor MGM says it just felt the flick’s “intimate storylines” (read: no explosions) would play better on TV than at the multiplex.
