It’s hard to tell what Eminem’s better at these days — selling records or running up his rap sheet. First the records thing: The salty mouthed one’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” hung on to the top spot on the pop album charts for the second week, with 794,000 units sold, according to music industry stats released Wednesday.
Eminem held off the likes of Kid Rock’s “The History of Rock” (debuting at No. 2 with 456,000 albums sold), Britney Spears’ “Oops! … I Did It Again” (down a spot, to No. 3); Mathchbox 20’s “Mad Season (also down a notch, to No. 4); and ‘N Sync’s “No Strings Attached” (holding at No. 5).
On the Billboard singles charts, R&B singer Aaliyah scored a No. 1 hit with “Try Agai” from the “Romeo Must Die” soundtrack.
Meanwhile, back in Eminem land: The 27-year-old Grammy winner was charged today in a Michigan court with a felony crime.
This is not be confused with the two felonies Eminem was charged with Tuesday. Those ones involved a guy, his wife and a kiss. This one involved the Insane Clown Posse.
Authorities say Em kept a gun at the ready as he argued with fellow rapper Douglas Dail outside a Royal Oak, Mich., store Saturday. The reputed fight was sparked when the Clown called him names. (“Melts in your mouth …”?)
