Tolkien son denies he opposed “Rings” film

Responding to reports that he disapproved of the film adaptation of
Lord of the Rings and had a falling-out with his son over the
matter, Christopher Tolkien, the son of Rings author J.R.R.
Tolkien, issued a statement in London on Saturday saying that while he
believes the book is unsuitable for cinematic transformation, “I
recognize that this is a debatable and complex question of art, and the
suggestions that have been made that I ‘disapprove’ of the films,
whatever their cinematic quality, even to the extent of thinking ill of
those with whom I may differ, are wholly without foundation.”
