Jon Bernthal Returning as The Punisher in the upcoming MCU series

Exciting news for Marvel fans as it has been reported that Jon Bernthal is set to return as The Punisher in the upcoming MCU series Daredevil: Born Again. Fans of the character will be thrilled to see him back in action, and with the show expected to release in the spring of 2024, the wait won’t be too long.

The Story of The Punisher

For those unfamiliar with the character, The Punisher is a vigilante who takes on the criminal underworld, seeking justice for the murder of his family. Known for his brutal methods and no-nonsense approach, The Punisher has been a fan favorite since his introduction in the comic books in 1974.

In 2016, Jon Bernthal first played the role of Frank Castle/The Punisher in the second season of the Netflix series Daredevil. His performance was widely praised by critics and fans alike, with many calling it the best portrayal of the character to date.

Bernthal’s Punisher was later given his own spinoff series, which ran for two seasons before being canceled by Netflix. Despite the show’s cancellation, fans have been clamoring for Bernthal to return to the role, and it seems their wishes have been granted.

The Punisher Returns in the upcoming Daredevil Series

The upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be a direct continuation of the story from the previous Daredevil series, which saw the titular Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) facing off against the villainous Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio).

The title of the series comes from the acclaimed Daredevil storyline of the same name, which was written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. The storyline is considered one of the greatest Daredevil stories of all time. Undoubtedly, it’s no surprise that Marvel would want to adapt it for the screen.

While details about the series are scarce at this point, it’s safe to assume that Bernthal’s Punisher will play a significant role in the story. Given his history with both Daredevil and Kingpin, it’s likely that he will be caught up in their ongoing conflict.

The Future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

One thing that’s interesting to note is that the upcoming series will be a part of the MCU, which means that it will be connected to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is significant because it opens up the possibility of The Punisher interacting with other Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man or the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It’s also worth noting that the inclusion of The Punisher in the MCU raises some questions about the character’s future. The Punisher is known for his violent methods, which may not be in line with the more family-friendly tone of the MCU. It will be interesting to see how the character is handled in this new context.
