Allen and Doumanian: Friends of the court?

Woody Allen has sent a handwritten note to his former friend and producer Jean Doumanian in an attempt to renew their friendship despite his recent lawsuit and her countersuit. “Have you lost your mind?” Allen said in the note, which was published in Sunday’s New York Daily News. “That you could think that I would ever suggest you crooked me! This is totally a little business disagreement. … This was supposed to be amusing — like a Tracy-Hepburn movie — in court by day, friends by night! What’s gotten into you? Let’s go out for dinner. It’ll be great. I don’t want one of those scenes like in Three Little Words where Red Skelton and Fred Astaire have to be tricked into a reconciliation by their wives — by the way, I’d be Astaire. … I never spoke to any press. Do you want us to be torn apart by a dishonest rag like the Post?” Doumanian’s attorney, Bert Fields, told the Daily News that he plans to use the “stunning piece of paper” when Doumanian’s countersuit goes to trial.
