"It's just it's an enormous project. It's a staggering project. There's so much dealing with it, it's unbelievable," Silver said.
Warner Bros. had been expected to announce a late 2002 release date for the sequel, but Dan Fellman, Warner's distribution president, told Variety, "We never had it scheduled."
Although Fellman confirmed that early special effects work is ongoing, he refused to verify the 2003 date.
The Keanu Reeves vehicle will be released simultaneously in the United States and abroad. A third installment of the series is being filmed concurrently with the second.
