Can you believe Bones is about to start it’s 11th season this fall? The long-running Fox procedural, about highly rational forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the go-with-your-gut FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), has claimed a lot of guest stars over the years. Even loyal viewers may have forgotten some of these!
The ‘80s pop icon played a psychic named Avalon Harmonia. She first appeared on the show’s season 5 premiere, and then reprised the role in three more episodes – the most recent one airing in March of this year.
Before she had her own show on Fox (New Girl), Zooey made a guest appearance on her big sister’s show. She played a distant cousin of Brennan with a similar anti-social personality. Booth even references the fact that they look like they could be sisters.
The Breaking Bad star played Stew Ellis in the season 1 episode, “The Superhero in the Alley.” He was a comic book store owner who became the prime suspect in a murder. He just can't stay out of trouble, can he?
It may seem like he was born to play Cam on Modern Family, but he did have roles before that. Eric had a small part as a cop on the season 2 episode “The Boneless Bride in the River.” Nice mustache.
Michael B. Jordan played the boyfriend of Cam’s daughter in the fifth season episode, “The Plain in the Prodigy.”
In the third season episode “Dead in the Saddle,” The Walking Dead star played a man named Lucky who ran a lodge for people into “pony play.” That is, sexual role play where people pretend to be horses and riders. One of the show’s weirder murder cases, to be sure.
The award for weirdest guest appearance ever goes to Stewie Griffin from Family Guy. Booth develops a brain tumor and starts hallucinating in the season 4 episode, “The Critic in the Cabernet.” Those hallucinations include visions of Stewie, for some reason.
The former Roswell star played Booth’s younger brother, Jared, in a handful of episodes in seasons 4 and 5.
The British actor played Booth’s psychiatrist, Dr. Gordon Wyatt, in season 2, 4 and 5. At first Booth is skeptical of him, but they soon become friends. In season 5, he recognized what the audience knew all along – that Booth was in love with Brennan – and encouraged Booth to pursue those feelings.
In another random casting choice, ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons plays the father of Angela Montenegro. He plays a fictionalized version of himself and at one point we find out that Angela’s middle name is “Pearly Gates,” the name of Gibbons’ guitar.
Before he sadly passed away in 2011, rapper Heavy D guest-starred in the first season episode “The Man in the Fallout Shelter.” He played Sid Shapiro, the owner of Booth’s favorite Chinese restaurant, Wong Fu’s.
She'll always be Mac from Veronica Mars to us! The actress played FBI Agent Genevieve "Genny" Shaw, who appeared in seasons 6 and 7 to work on cases with Booth.
The husband of Sarah Michelle Gellar – who starred with David Boreanaz on Buffy the Vampire Slayer – played Danny Beck, a covert CIA agent and Booth’s old Army pal. He showed up for two episodes in season 9.
Before he was Sam on True Blood, Sam Trammell played a murderer on Bones. Booth and Brennan figure out that he killed his girlfriend in the 2005 pilot episode.
In the season 6 premiere “The Man in the Wall,” Morris played FBI agent Ronald Oakes who was working undercover for a drug-dealing club owner.
Twilight’s Rachelle Lefevre appeared in the season 1 episode, “The Man on Death Row,” as Amy Morton, the lawyer of a death row inmate.
Boy Meets World star Rider Strong joined the Bones cast for the fifth season episode “Mummy in the Maze.” He played Gregg, a creepy fun house worker accused of murder. P.S. - He didn’t do it.
The actress/director played herself in the first season episode, “The Woman at the Airport.” The episode was set in Los Angeles, so of course they’d have to run into someone famous.
